Irish Director Lenny Abrahamson Show His Brilliance in What Richard Did  If originality and creativity are to be praised, then Irish director Lenny Abrahamson deserves rapturous applaus for his first three major productions: they all look completely different. Ruben Fleischer’s work was never really regarded for its maturity nor its earnestness. Before Gangster Squad the Washington-born director had mostly worked on cheesy comedies like Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less. Now, Fleischer has made a move to further his career and launch him into a more serious directorial landscape with this, his first really mature movie, Gangster Squad. Gangster Squad Review Gangster Squad is based on a true story about a group of incorruptible cops up against a mobster in Brooklyn in Los Angeles in the 1940s. It stars Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen, the creepy and evil mobster. Sean Penn plays the role with a lot of hamm behind a lot of prosthetics.
