Killzone Shadow Fall might look absolutely stunning but it’s precisely the same game only with better graphics. Which, ironically, is so typically Sony – failing to deliver genuinely new gameplay experience but simply pumping out the same old tripe with better visuals.
Killzone Shadow Fall was the PS4’s most hype moment during the Sony conference. It was the one game that truly showed the power of the Playstation 4. It looked absolutely stunning.
Then again, it’s entirely possible that the Killzone footage shown could just have been a pre-rendered cinematic . . . which might stir a few memories with regard to former Playstation console launches.
So, we have a game that appears to play precisely the same as older games and fails to deliver any new gameplay experience, with amazing graphics that might just be pre-rendered.
Oh dear.

Killzone Shadow Fall for PS4 Playstation 4, Same Old Game With A Facelift
The very first game shown for the PS4 (Playstation 4), Knack is an action platformer from Mark Cerny, the PS4's lead hardware designer who has worked on every Playstation to date.
Knack is a humorous and charming platformer with the sort of cutesy characters you would expect. That said, the game doesn't look outlandishly "Next Gen." For the first title to be shown on PS4, this isn't exactly earth shatteringly brilliant. In fact, if this were the standard of PS4 games shown at the conference, it would be hard to give a damn about the new console.
"Knack's" one innovation -- Vita streaming -- is totally pointless
The most exciting revelation regarding Knack was its use of Gaikai to stream PS4 games to Vita. Given than no one actually bought a Vita, though, is this really relevant in any way? Probably not.
It's hard to image why Sony let Knack lead the way. Perhaps it's simply because its Lead Designer is also the PS4's Lead Hardware Designer.
Either way, Knack definitely doesn't Read more [...]

Capcom’s Remember Me not only has Nilin (one heck of a cool character) and a slick cyberpunk style, it’s got some pretty darned inventive gameplay too, as these interview notes reveal.
Capcom’s Remember Me: The Latest Revelations from Interviews
At the beginning of the game, Nilin doesn’t know who she is and has to discover the truth about herself and the world she is in.
Nilin will have access to many different combos, which can also be customised. The combos are easy to perform but combat requires a lot of strategy.
The story will be told through the environment. Some of the story may be written on walla or on billboards. This makes for a greater sense of immersion.
Nilin will be able to access the memories of other characters
Every other character in the game has at least one memory that can be accessed
Nilin is the coolest character of the year (okay so that’s just my opinion and isn’t from any interview).
One of the biggest parts of the game is the Read more [...]

The number on rule in video game design is to test every single ounce of the game to make sure that a) it’s completely functional and without glitches and b) it’s fun enough to make players want to keep on playing.
Sadly, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance appears to be a less than professional title and more a cheap cash-in. It suffers from the same faults most major cash-ins suffer from: it’s straight-up lazy.
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance feels like it’s trying to mash together all the good bits from previous Metal Gear Solid games (codec, ninja, etc) but without checking that they come together as a fluidly functioning (and fun) whole.
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance needs to come together as its own title, rather than a melting pot of elements from previous Metal Gear Solid games.
Konami need to stop presuming that what worked before will work now and need to start more vigorous testing. After all, it’s only through testing that any video game design truly comes Read more [...]

New details for Star Craft 2 Heart of the Swarm have emerged from an interview with Star Craft 2 Game Director Dustin Browder.
From what we've seen, Star Craft 2 Heart of the Swarm pushes the boundaries of the way we think about expansion packs. It could easily be a new game, not just an expansion.

Cast your mind back to E3 2011 and you’ll remember that Konami hinted at a new Contra game said to be under the helm of the blossoming studio MercurySteam Games. Shortly after this announcement, however, things fell quiet, and they have stayed quiet ever since, until now.
The Teaser for the New Contra Game at E3 2011
Back in June of this year, David Cox, a lead designer at MercurySystem Works who worked on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow stated that he still wanted to make the new Contra game but that it would be dependent on success of Castlevania : Lords of Shadow 2.
Well, it seems that confidence is high for the success of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 as our sources state that the Contra game is definitely in development.

Apple App StoreThe video game world is full of bad language, ultra violence, death, sex and crime. Most of these games have absolutely no issue being sold through the. Take Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Was, a game which even features a cutscene of a guy getting his heart ripped out. That’s fine, according to Apple, who have been enjoying sales of the game since its release.
Yes, violence, gore, bad language, sex and crime are no issue at all. What is an issue, however, is for a game to feature and discuss current political and cultural news stories. This was the case for Engame: Syria, a game that explores the Syrian Civil War in a mature and intelligent way.
Engame Syria (RIGHT) was rejected from the APP Store while Chinatown Wars, a game where you can cut people in half with a chainsaw, is totally fine.
Endgame: Syria was rejected from the App Store for breaking guidelines that prohibit “games that “solely target a specific race, culture, a real government Read more [...]

Check out the brand new images of Final Fantasy 13 Lightning Returns character art below.
There have been a lot of different opinions touted about the upcoming Final Fantasy 13 Lightning Returns. I guess that's not surprising given how bad Final Fantasy 13 has been thus far.
Can Square Enix return Final Fantasy to the dizzying heights that fans expect? Honestly, probably not even though I'd be more than thrilled if they did. It's more likely, however, that they'll pump out another less-than-good-enough title that fans will lap up. And that's the entire problem -- fans continue to buy Final Fantasy games even if they're trash.
So here's a message to YOU, Mr Final Fantasy fan. . .
Do NOT buy Lightning Returns if it gets trash reviews. Square Enix wont listen to disgruntled fans unless these crappy games start hurting their wallet badly. So dont buy it. That way, Square Enix will be forced to put more serious effort into the next Final Fantasy game to make up Read more [...]
Total Two: War Rome is going to be an absolutely gigantic game, kinda like the Roman Empire. Whether or not that will mean more roads here in Britain remains to be seen. . . if so, I could use one that goes straight to the pub, but I digress. . .
According to developer The Creative Assembly, forty units combining naval and land forces can take place in battles. In the developer diary below, you get to see the Siege of Carthage, which is a massive city having great big boulders thrown at it.
Creative Assembly also discuss the historical context of the Siege of Carthage and reveal the tactical map.
Two things will standout about Total Two: War Rome from this vid: 1) it’s massive 2) it’s massive.

Continuing our look at the best video game cover art of 2012 we come to Borderlands 2, Assassin's Creed 3, Persona 4 Arena, Lollipop Chainsaw and New Super Mario Bros. 2
5: Assassin's Creed 3 Cover Art
The cover art for Assassin's Creed 3 is all about power as Connor Kenway lays into a fallen foe. There's also the Revolutionary War Flag (which these days would more be interpreted by most, wrongly, as the American flag). You can't beat a bit of disguised patriotism when it comes to marketing.
4: Borderlands 2 Cover Art
The bright orange splattered right over this Borderlands 2 cover made it the first thing you saw when you walked in the game store. Together with the altogether insane image of the cover character, Borderlands 2' cover art evoked a highly aggressive and energized tone that was hard to resist.
3: Lollipop Chainsaw's Cover Art
Despite the fact that Lollipop Chainsaw was a pretty boring and unoriginal game (metacritic score of 3.5) it was one of Read more [...]

Just in case Hayden Christensen’s horrendous acting in the Star Wars prequels didn’t ruin the series enough, or if somehow the Disney acquisition of LucasArts hasn’t annihilated everything Star Wars, the new trailer for Star Wars : The Old Republic has only made things worse. Why? Two words: voice acting.
Star Wars The Old Repbulic is full of great characters, but with terrible voice acting they'd fall flat on their alien faces
Voice Acting Has been on a high in gaming of late, but the new Star Wars The Old Republic Trailer simply isn't up to scratch. . .
Voice Acting has been one of the surprise strengths of game trailers this year. Trailers like THIS ONE and THIS ONE have provided truly excellent performances, the actors genuinely bringing their characters to life. In fact, even the earlier trailers for Star Wars: The Old Republic (and the game itself) featured some solid voice acting. So what the heck has gone wrong?
You’d think it were the actor themselves ; that perhaps Read more [...]
