The Keys to Fitness and Weight Loss Motivation

Continuing our look at the keys to fitness and weight loss motivation (our role model for this article is Jamie Foxx)

Keys to Fitness / Weight Loss Motivation #2: Have a support group

The same trainer who makes it easy for Jamie Foxx to exercise also gives him constant support. He’s a one man cheering squad. Trust me, having someone there who constantly motivates you and gives you encouragement makes a hell of a difference.

You might find that you have a friend or family member that you can team up with for mutual support. You can send each other texts, speak on the phone and talk when in person, giving constant motivation and encouragement. Or, if you’re looking to be your own support, find a list of quotes / inspiring music or anything else that inspire you. Make these inspiring objects readily available. Wake up with your ipod ready to play motivating music. Have post-it notes about the place with inspiring notes on them. Have pictures that mean a lot to you and make you feel good doted around the place. Make motivation readily available.

Keys to Fitness  / Weight Loss Motivation #3 : Have Musts

Jamie Foxx’s fitness levels are directly related to his career. He has to be fit in order to look good in films and on magazine covers so he can be the star he is. He has a constant string of events for which he must be fit (cover shoot tomorrow: gotta be fit for that. Filming the day after, should be fit for that too. . . and so on). This helps him to keep up with his fitness because he has a whole list of future events that demand he be in shape.

Create a list of musts: events for which you are going to demand yourself to be fit. For instance, perhaps you will be going on vacation; decide that you will be fit on the vacation and make this one of your musts.

Motivation is as much about what you do when you’re not exercising as what you do when you are. Follow the three keys to Jamie Foxx-like motivation and you’ll turn yourself into the Duracell Bunny in no time. Sure, you might not end up starring in movies, but you’ll darned sure look the part of a star anyway.

How To Have Self Motivation to Match Jamie Foxx in Django Unchained

Jamie Foxx might seem to have superhuman motivation in his new movie Django Unchained, but with a few minor changes, we can all achieve the same level of self motivation

1x1.trans How To Have Self Motivation to Match Jamie Foxx in Django Unchainedhealth fitness

To call Jamie Foxx motivated would be understatement of the century. Staying up late at night filming his next movie, Roland Emmerich’s action thriller White House Down (he plays the president), being filmed each and every day for magazine covers, fitting in push-ups and pull-ups whenever he can with his personal fitness trainer, promoting his current film Django Unchained  . . .. Life as a star might be bloody fantastic, but it certainly isn’t easy.

Jamie Foxx turns 45 this month, yet he’s got more energy and motivation than I have at the comparatively ripe age of thirty. Perhaps that’s why Jamie Foxx has been all over Hollywood movies and on the covers of hundreds of glossy magazines.

My  aim here isn’t to rant on and on about how brilliant Jamie Foxx is. The world’s got  more than enough shameless ass kissers as it is. Rather, the point here is to realise why Jamie Foxx is as motivated as he is, how he maintains his motivation, and how you and I can reach and sustain a similar level of motivation.

So, how the heck is Jamie Foxx as motivated as he is, and how can you and I be equally motivated?

The Keys to Motivation: How to be as motivated as Jamie Foxx

1x1.trans How To Have Self Motivation to Match Jamie Foxx in Django Unchainedhealth fitness

Follow these keys to Jamie Foxx-like motivation and you’ll be as motivated as the Django Unchained star in no time.

Keys to Motivation #1 : Make it easy and accessible

Jamie Foxx is fortunate enough to have a personal fitness trainer who follows him around everywhere and sets up exercises which he can do anywhere. Thanks to his trainer, Foxx is able to do exercise practically any time he wants (including during photo shoots).

You probably don’t have a personal trainer following you around 24/7, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make exercise more accessible. One of the easiest ways to make exercise more accessible is to decide that every move counts. If you find a spare ten seconds to drop down and do a push-up, it counts. You don’t need to take a whole hour to go to the gym to exercise. If you work at home and you find that you’re not thinking straight, go jog for ten minutes. You’ll get exercise and the change of activity will help you to think better when you return to work. Bottom line, make it easy to exercise whenever you can and build the mentality that every little counts.

Why am I so emotional? — How to STOP being so emotional

“Why am I so emotional?” I used to ask myself that question all the time. I was trying to figure out how to stop being so emotional when I came across a very effective way how t stop being so emotional.

You might be surprised to hear that the tool I discovered for how to stop being so emotional came from method acting.

Why Am I So Emotional?

Before we discuss how to stop being so emotional, let me tell you my own answer to what I was so emotional myself.  Because believe me, I used to beg myself all the time, “Why am I so emotional? Why am I so emotional? Why, Why WHY am I so emotional. . . ?!”

I was always extremely emotional because I had, for many many years, lived in a rather turmoil and explosive environment. There was a lot of arguing in my home when i was younger and  lot of emotion. Because of this, I essentially became conditioned to think that any minor issue would lead to a full blown argument and a lot of emotional pain. That mindset made me incredibly sensitive to anything negative and in turn made me very emotionally sensitive. But that was before I learned how to stop being so emotional.

How to stop being so emotional through method acting.

1x1.trans Why am I so emotional? How to STOP being so emotionalweight loss articles work self improvement 2 health fitness Self Help for Depression / Weight Loss and More

Acting is one subject I discuss a lot here on Arolemodel.com (not surprising, given that I’m an actor. . .). And I like to think I discuss acting in an innovative manner.

You see, acting is more than getting on a stage and speaking lines. Genuine acting is about learning to live as a fictional character, about literally thinking and feeling what a fictional character would think and feel. And if acting can enable us to bring to life a character that doesn’t even exist. .  .well, surely then it can help us to become the person we really want to be too, and if that’s the case, then acting is naturally very closely related to self development and self improvement.

Acting Reveals how to stop being so emotional

There are a million self improvement tips to be learnt from acting, yet one seems to stand out above the rest. That tip, or law, or life-changing truth, is that emotions precede thoughts.

Thoughts, essentially, are a by-product of emotion. If you feel positive, you’ll think positively. If you feel negative, you’ll think negatively. What’s more, through method acting you can learn to make yourself feel however you want to feel.

When you put those two facts together, you realise that method acting can make you feel how you choose to feel, and by creating your feelings you can create the way you think.  (You don’t need to be a pro-actor to make use of this by the way. In a moment I’ll reveal how even someone with absolutely zero acting experience can immediately begin to make use of this information. ).

Even with no acting experience, acting is still the best way how to stop being so emotional.

For me, this revelation was a huge breakthrough. I used to think my personality was shaped by the way I thought. Before I began acting I was awfully shy, and a large part of the reason for my shyness was because I’d experience a thought like, “I can’t talk in public” and would take it for granted. Oh, okay, my self-talk would go, I best just stay quiet then.

But then the lightning bolt: My thoughts are just a by-product of my emotions. My thoughts weren’t the problem. The way I was feeling was the problem. I needed to find some way of feeling positive, because feeling positive would make me think I could speak to whoever I wanted to speak to, and then I’d be able to do it, to overcome my shyness. So, how could I control my emotions?

I learned how to stop being so emotional by facing a fear. . .

Ironically, the answer came from my biggest fear: being on stage. Actors, it seemed, were the most talented people in the world at controlling their emotions. If I could learn how an actor controlled their emotions then I could learn to change how I was feeling, and that in turn would change what I was thinking, and with positive thinking and positive feeling I’d be certain to be able to talk to anyone I wanted.

This is the tool I want to give to you now. You might wish to use it, as I did, to overcome shyness, or for any other goal you have in life. Really, the possibilities are endless. I mean just imagine it: complete control of your thoughts and emotions.  Sounds good? Cool; here’s how to do it and how to stop being so emotional.

This self development exercise is probably the number one tool used by all method actors as well. . . just in case you suddenly feel inspired to go to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art or something. .  .

How to Control Your Emotions through Emotional Memory

I bet you never thought you’d be an actor. After these simple steps you’ll be able to tell your friends you’ve been trained in the same art as Robert Downey Jr. and company. HURRAH! On with the show. ..

To perform this exercise you will first need to decide how you want to feel and also have a memory of a time when you felt that sensation powerfully as well as an objective / goal. Here’s an example from my own life.

  • I want to feel: motivated
  • I have in my mind a time of extreme motivation: Running around the track here at home training for the London Marathon.
  • My goal: To feel energetic and positive in the gym on my weight loss regime.

This is all we need to begin.

The Exercise For How to Stop being so emotional

  • Close your eyes and bring the memory to mind (so for me I remember my time of extreme motivation running around the track).
  • Notice if any elements of the memory stand out more than others. For me and my running memory, I remember distinctly the feeling of my running shoes, the yellow fields in the background and the heat of the sun on my wrists.
  • Zoom in on these elements: Focus closely on the parts of the memory which stand out. So for me, I focus-in on the feeling of the shoes. I’ll focus on this for a few moments before moving onto the next important part of the memory—the fields in the background—and then the next after that—the heat on my wrists.
  • Notice the emotion this causes: When you focus on each part of the memory, you should feel a big change in your emotions. Go through each part of the memory one by one and ask: Is this creating the sensation I want? If it is, great. If one of the elements creates an unwanted sensation, then forget that element and find another part of the memory that seems important.
  • You should end up with three parts of one memory, all of which make you feel how you want to feel. For me, I have the yellow fields, the feeling of running shoes, and finally the warmth on my wrists. These memories make me feel very motivated.
  • Finally, state your objective to yourself in the first person: I am in the gym running on the treadmill, feeling positive and energised in my weight loss regime.
  • Next time you want to feel the same way, simply bring the same memories to mind. Simple!

BINGO! You’ll now notice that your emotions have changed. You’re feeling how you want to feel. What’s more, your new, positive feeling is making you think positively. And feeling and thinking positively, you’ll realise that right now you are about to do the thing you wanted to do and you’re about to succeed in it having learned how to control your emotions.

I’d carry on, but I’m on my way to the gym now I’m feeling so darn motivated. If you liked this article, I’d love you to subscribe to Arolemodel (the forms on the top right of the page) and / or share this page on facebook or twitter. Thanks a lot!

Yet another amazing running motivation video rolling in today. This one comes from Spumoninick over at DailyMotion. The kicking beat, along with the high quality footage of some awesome runners makes you want to get up and go for a run right now (almost making it a shame i just got back from my run for today. . . anyway).
