CM Punk has had one hell of a year, coming to the absolute top of his game, to a position from which he can genuinely call himself “The Best in the World.” But to a large degree, what brought CM Punk to this level was not his great wrestling skills, but the quality of his person and his character. CM Punk is a fantastic role model and a more than worthy WWE Champion. For this, Arolemodel.com salutes CM Punk and presents this look at the top 4 character strengths and virtues of a superstar who is a great wrestler but an even better man.
“I have the balls to say things that nobody else has the balls to say.” So said CM punk on RAW during the build-up (and promo) for Money in the Bank 2011. Who could argue? No matter what CM Punk’s opinion may be, whether it’s a popular opinion like his views on John Laurinitis or an incredibly unpopular opinion like his opinion that people shouldn’t drink—which was expressed during the Straight Edge Society days—CM Punk has always been a guy with the guts to express his thoughts to the world. In doing so, he shows great personal bravery each and every week, but perhaps the moment that illustrated this character strength more than any other was his willingness to leave the WWE after Money in the Bank, where he decided to turn down a lucrative WWE contract and leave his job to stay true to his principles.
Hot on the heels on CM Punk’s personal bravery is a very high degree of integrity, which CM Punk has more of than possibly any other superstar (though John Cena would be a potential contender). Much like his personal bravery, CM Punk shows integrity through his personal beliefs, mostly his belief in living a straight-edge life. He also shows his integrity through his love of wrestling. CM Punk has always carried a sort of symbolic torch for real wrestling. Where everybody interprets Cena’s “The champ is here” as meaning that Cena is the champion of entertainment (a sort-of Hollywood-action hero figure) there can be no doubt that CM Punk’s “Best in the World” refers directly to pure wrestling, which seems to run deep in CM Punk’s blood. CM Punk gives the message of sticking to grass roots, of being faithful to origins, and he upholds this message through a great degree of integrity.
