It’s clear to see why Waterworld has always been ridiculed while still capturing a healthy audience. Though the movie was doubtlessly a complete debacle  and one of the worst pieces of filmmaking ever, it was also a very powerful idea.

Strip Waterworld of its awful production and what you’re left with is a solid idea for a story in a post-apocalyptic world. It’s an idea that captured the imagination of millions around the world, even if the film ended up disappointing.

Recognising the value of Waterworld’s idea and plot, Syfy recently announced that a remake or sequel would be possible. And now, thanks to our sources, we can confirm that Syfy are indeed working with Universal on a remake of Waterworld.

Finally, the great idea of the movie might be matched with a great production to create the movie Waterworld should always have been.
