There can be little doubt that the vast majority of video game stories and narrative are less than inspire. Often suffering from fatal levels of immaturity, lack of sophistication or simply being starved of creativity and inspiration, gaming stories rarely set your imagination alight.

All that, however, might be about to change as Far Cry 3’s story looks set to be a mature and sophisticated revolution in the dramaturgy of gaming.

As these interview quotes with the Far Cry 3 development staff reveal, there’s a lot to be excited over in your adventure to Far Cry 3’s tropical island.

Far Cry 3 Interview Quotes With The Development Staff

You’ll likely be pleased to hear that the Far Cry 3 team are taking both the story and gaming in general seriously.  ‘We have a lot of respect for our subject matter,’ says Lead Design Director Mark Thompson. “We approach it with maturity and honesty. Moreover we respect gamers, and we know that they will treat the material with the same respect.”

This respect for the game and for its players translates into maturely written characters who are far more than simple pixels on a screen. “We very much cast Jason as a real person,’ says lead game designer Jamie Keen. ‘He is a man on his own, and this is his journey. He is like most people in this situation, totally ill-equipped to deal with it. But he grows as the player grows. and then there’s Citra. Citra has her own mystique and intent. . . ”

Perhaps best of all – at least for gamers who like a good sense of immersion with their storytelling—is the fact that Far Cry 3 won’t constantly hassle you with achievement updates. ‘I’m a big fan of immersing myself in the single player,’ says creative director Mark Jensen. ‘ In Far Cry 3,  if you don’t want to engage in competitive activities that remind you of the real world you can ignore those elements as they’re optional. You can opt out of seeing the pop-ups and achievements.’

The respect the team are giving to Far Cry 3’s story and to the sense of immersion makes the game
