Through their first date body language, men reveal their true thoughts and feelings. You can’t take everything men say for granted because, well, it’s very easy to be dishonest with words. This is not so with first date body language: men can’t hide the truth when you know how to read their nonverbals!

The Most Important First Date Body Language Gestures for Dating Online and Offline

The Eyebrow Raise

In their first date body language men are usually subtle because a) they want to act cool and b) men are naturally not very expressive. On the rare occasion when a man is truly expressive, however, you’ll find you don’t even need to pay attention to what he’s saying because his body language says it all. Take, for instance, the eyebrow raise. It’s one of the most obvious signs of attraction. You’re sure to notice it because it will make his face appear to be say  “Hello-ooooo.” This is a great sign. It shows both friendliness and attraction. Be aware, though, we do sometime cock our eyebrows when questioning someone. Use your intuition. Is his eyebrow raise a “Helloooo” or a “ Wait, wut?”

Licking Lips

If there’s one gesture where, in their first day body language men clearly express their feelings, then it’s in licking their lips. Licking lips is a very powerful sexual sign. It basically means you’re so freaking hot he wants to kiss you right now, or more. Perhaps you inadvertently show this body language gesture yourself, in which case there are three possible next steps. One, he will think you’re coming on too strong). Two, he responds in kind, in which case you’re about to have a good night. Three, if you feel that your gesture was a little too forward, just give a cute little smile.

He fixes your Hair

This could be either a very good thing or a pretty bad thing. Let’s start with the bad. If he grimaces while he touches your hair, he’s a perfectionist who simply cannot handle the fact that you had one rogue hair out of place. That said, this can also be the one gesture in their first date body language men actually show a soft side. If he smiles and looks in your eyes expectantly while fixing your hair, he’s waiting to see how you respond. He’s asking, “Is it okay for me to touch your hair? Do you like me? Please can I kiss you now. .  . ?”

Fidgeting

There’s a rather absurd argument that a guy who fidgets while talking to a girl has an erection he’s trying to hide. This is yet another one of those pop body language myths. It doesn’t mean that at all, otherwise the implication would be that insecure men have permanent erections because they fidget all the time. No, it simply means a guy is feeling a little uncertain. Maybe he’s worried about saying the right thing to you, or maybe he simply is a nervous wreck. Either way, if he’s feeling a little nervous around you at least you know you’re having an affect on him.

Gesturing with His Hands

Two things happen when we gesture with our hands. The first is that the person we are speaking to gets a better idea of exactly what we are trying to say. The second is that when we gesture with our hands we access more information in our brain.  Both these things suggest that he is trying to make sure you understand exactly how he thinks or feels. That might be because he wants to compliment you but doesn’t know how to do it, but then again it might be because he’s struggling to tell you why a relationship wouldn’t work. Either way, in this gesture of first date body language men show a sincerity to their communication.

Sitting with legs apart

Yet another body language gesture which pop body language writers get wrong. Many argue that a guy sitting with his legs far apart is trying to seduce you. In actual fact, while that may be correct in some circumstances, he may also be an aggressive and dominant guy who doesn’t like you at all but just wants you to know how tough he is. A very polite man who wishes he could seduce you would never sit in this position, he would stand with his legs straight because that’s the way he believes to be most polite, but trust me, that doesn’t me he wouldn’t love to throw you on a bed right there and then. So, this is a gesture in first date body language men show to establish dominance, which could be in order to impress you or just so you know how hard he is (pun absolutely intended).

Reaching a hand out

Let’s finish with one gesture in the first date body language of men that has a clear meaning. If a guy reaches his hand out to you with an open palm, he wants to be closer to you, and if you take his hand, it could be the beginning of a blossoming relationship. The meaning remains virtually the same if he reaches out with his palm facing downwards. Again, in this instance, he is reaching out to get closer to you, but he is dominant and in control and confident of the outcome.

In this first date body language men reveal their true feelings. These pointers will provide you with the insight you need to steer the date in the right direction, or, if you’re reading this after the date, to know exactly how it went.
