Hope Springs Blur Ray DVD Review: Steep and Tommy Lee Thrill

Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones provide scintillating performance of a mediocre film. Is Hope Springs a DVD worth your hard earned cash? Read our review below.

Hope Springs Plot

Kay (Meryl Streep) and Arnold (Tommy Lee Jones) are in a relationship from which all sense of love, intimacy and passion have been completely stripped. Kay is tired of her failing marriage and desperately wants to rekindle the flames of passion.

To try and solve her marriage crisis, Kay enlists the professional help of Doctor Feld (Steve Carell), a wedding counsellor. Provided Kay is willing to shove an awful lot of money in Feld’s direction, he’ll set up a couples retreat designed to spark the old lover’s fires. so is the premise of Hope Springs, and it soon leads to your typical romantic comedy shenanigans.

The direction that David Frankel chooses to take the film will divide audiences in two. It’s minimal and the script is less than inspired, but then, it’s a rom-com, it doesn’t need to be particularly original or inventive. Rom com’s are more dependent on the performance of the stars than on ingenuity of screenwriter or director.

Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep put in wonderful performances as the middle-aged, tiring couple. They flex their OSCAR-winning muscles and are certain to thrill audiences.

Hope Springs Blu Ray DVD Disc Review

The video of Hope Springs is a treat. Presented in 2:40:1 aspect ratio, it’s hard to imagine the disc looking much better than this. Sadly, the sound doesn’t fair so well. The music is often too loud, but at least the dialogue is always clear.

Hope Springs DVD Review Final Thoughts: Fans of rom-coms have more than enough reason to grab a copy of Hope Springs. While it may not be a groundbreaker, the scintillating performances of Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones is more than enough to get excited about.
