A lot of new information has been spilt regarding the Prometheus, thanks largely in part to the twelve minute Prometheus preview and Q&A with Ridley Scott that took place in London yesterday. Here at Arolemodel.com we’ve boiled everything down to create this focussed look at the story highlights from the preview.

The Prometheus Ship 

Prometheus, the ship, holds a crew of 17, making it larger than the alien ship that held 10 (meaning there are more people who can be killed this time around). It’s gone and found itself rather far from Earth; some 32 hundred trillion kilometres (and with gas prices today that’s quite a problem). Prometheus’ destination is unknown.

The Prometheus ship is a state-of-the-art flagship. 

 

Prometheus Characters 

Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce): Head of the Weyland Corp, an exceedingly rich man whose money funds the Prometheus expedition. As the Prometheus ship comes out of orbit, Peter Weyland informs the crew that he is: a) their employer, b) dead now and c) the ‘father’ of Michael Fassbender’s David, the ship’s android. He invoked the Prometheus myth, in which the Titan Prometheus stole fire from the Gods to bestow to man, triggering our evolution.

Being optimistic, Weyland chooses to ignore the punishment part of the myth and is hopeful that the expedition will turn out to be one giant leap for mankind, seeing them standing on the shoulders of the mysterious race that invited them.

Peter Weyland’s supposed death leaves a big question mark over the man who can be seen aboard Prometheus in the trailers. Is Weyland in hiding?

Vickers (Charlize Theron): Vickers is one tough momma, coming out of cryo-stasis like she were rolling out of bed (but without the immense bother and pain of actually rolling out of bed) where all other crew members throw their guts up into buckets while they adjust. Her hobbies include doing push-ups and looking hot.

 

 

michael fassbender stars as David in Prometheus

David (Michael Fassbender): Calm and fastidious, David is the first character we meet Prometheus, wandering its corridors while waiting for the ship to reach its destination. He is the cool head the crew will likely need throughout the movie. But will David be like Ash from Alien (hindering the crew) or like Bishop from Aliens (helpful to the point of getting torn in two for his duty)?

Captain Janek (Idris Elba): The quirky captain of Prometheus.  His crew includes Benedict Wong and Game Of Thrones’ Emun Elliott.  

Prometheus Plot Points 

The movie begins with Elizabeth Shaw and scientific (and romantic) partner Charlie Holloway uncovering evidence of an ancient civilization that worshipped giant beings, an image of which is painted in a cave. The image shows the figure pointing to five balls hanging from the sky.

Those balls represent the exact configuration of a solar system 32 hundred trillion kilometres from Earth. This is not the first civilization to worship these astronomic balls either (LOL). Long story short it turns out that the paintings are a map to a solar system, a system that just so happened to be able to sustain human life. The duo find financial backing and back their bags for the long long trip. Thankfully they’ll be cryogenically frozen so the time should flash by.

Prometheus Scenes We Know Happen (but when?). . .

A shot of a solemn Vickers, intoning, ‘if you go down there, you’ll die.’ She may not be wrong.
An extended shot of something – a microscopic worm – wriggling into Holloway’s eye, back on board Prometheus. Does he become infected by something?
Shot of a living organism – a small creature with a mouth that looks like female genitalia – rearing up, presumably while the Prometheus crew is completing their first sweep of the planet.

Prometheus Locations 

Prometheus takes place on the planet designated LV-223, not a galactic hop from LV-426, where Alien and Aliens took place.

Prometheus begins in 2089 on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.
