Subtle body language signs are your best bet at accurately reading body language.
Body language as a subject is gathering speed, particularly in the dating world. Both men and women are using and reading body language to further their courting skills. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. On the plus side, it makes people more aware of the feelings of others by putting them in tune with other’s people’s body language. But on the negative side, it means that both men and women often try to conceal their genuine feelings by choreographing their body language. This leads one problem: how do you tell which body language signals are fake and which real? The answer lies in reading subtle body language signs.
Look for Subtle Body Language Signs
As an actor of many years and as a body language specialist, even I could not hide all my body language tells if I wanted to. There are some signals which are just too subtle (and some which literally cannot be consciously controlled)
If you want to truly read people, look for the following subtle body language signs
Microexpressions: We cannot hide all facial expressions, the face is simply too responsive to allow for complete control of it. The moment we feel something it will show on our faces. Look for very short moments of emotional change in a person’s face. For instance, perhaps their smiling and putting on a happy face, but just for a split second you saw the expression of anger (eyebrows drawn down and inward, a thin top lip and tight lower eyelids). Go with this read.
Eye direction: the eyes are another extremely responsive area. It takes a lot of practice and skill to control the expression of our eyes. Most people cannot do it, so anytime you see subtle body language signs in the eyes you can trust them.
Feet: Only people who know about body language will bother checking their foot direction, making this the feet one of the subtle body language signs that can reveal much.
Hands: Even a person who knows about body language will not be able to control all their hand gestures. Say, for instance, that you see a guy who has his hands relaxed at his side, but every so often he’ll move as though to put his hands in his pockets before suddenly stopping the motion and putting them back at his side. He almost certainly wants to put his hands in his pockets because he feels nervous and is consciously trying not to show it.
Fidgeting: Spotting fidgeting can be tricky because there are so many different things a person can fidget with: phone, wallet, drink, face, hands, pen, etc. But for the same reason it can be very hard for the person fidgeting to notice they’re doing it. This makes fidgeting one of the subtle body language signs that both the reader and the person performing the gesture have to be cautious to spot and to avoid.
In cases where you’re dealing with an individual who either knows body language or is very in control of their movements, look for these more subtle body language signs. They’ll let slip whatever a person may try to hide.
