Metal Gear Rising Revengeance’s release date is right around the corner and we’re pretty darned excited to find out whether it’s going to a) completely freaking rock, or b) be a blemish on the phenomenal name of Metal Gear Solid.
We’ve already discussed a few of the issues regarding Metal Gear Rising Revengeance and some of the areas where the game could fall flat on its face (including unintuitive controls and cutscenes that seem to continually interfere with gameplay).
So, on this page let’s play the nice card and look at some of the elements of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance that are absolutely awesome.
10th Coolest Part of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance—Raiden
No matter what anyone says, there’s on way in which Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is truly brilliant, and that’s Raiden himself. Raiden is, without doubt, one of the coolest video game characters of all time.

8th Coolest Part of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance—Bosses
Metal Gear games have always had some of the absolute best bosses in gaming. My personal favourite MGS boss has got to be Psycho Mantis, the weird freak who telepathically takes control of your pad and forces you to unplug it (now that’s inventive video game design, people!)
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is certain to follow the brilliant boss designs of previous games in the series. And if you don’t believe me, check out this boss chick who quite clearly is touching herself. . .
see. . .touching herself. . .
Anyway, with the new gameplay mechanics afforded by the brand new combat system, there are a ton of ways in which boss fights in Metal Gear Rising Revengeance might play out. Clearly, with this self fondling boss chick, you’re going to have to charm off her many arms. . . what else will we have in store from Metal Gear Rising Revengeance’s bosses? We’ll have to wait and see.

6th Coolest Part of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance—Gray Fox
Many months ago, Hideo Kojima stated that he would have preffered to have had Gray Fox as Metal Gear Rising Revengeance’s main character, but the studio were happier using Raiden.
It’s clear to see why Hideo Kojima is such a big fan of Gray Fox. Not only way Gray Fox in Metal Gear games long before Raiden was, but in many ways he’s a more interesting character. Older games and emulator fans will remember how cool Gray Fox was all those years ago on the MSX. To be fair, he’s a character that deserves more attention than he gets.
Well, at least with Metal Gear Rising Revengeance we get the Gray Fox skin.

The Inferno Armor was recently revealed as a bonus for gamers who preorder Metal Gear Rising Revengeance through Amazon (though apparently is also available through GAME in the UK).

2nd Coolest Part of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance— The Reinvention
It would be weird to make a list of the coolest things about Metal Gear Rising Revengeance without at least mentioning the fact that Konami took the creative risk to completely reinvent one of their top franchises.
Whether or not Metal Gear Rising Revengeance ends up a success or not shouldn’t overshadow the fact that the creative effort in itself is impressive. Too many companies hold on to their franchises too tightly, afraid to change the slightest things. Metal Gear fans can count themselves lucky that Konami at least have the balls to try something new.
The Number 1 Coolest Thing About Metal Gear Rising Revengeance – The Sword
Was there ever any doubt that this list would end with the sword? Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is entirely about the sword, about beating the unholy hell out of people with it.

When you think of Metal Gear Solid, one of the first thing’s you will likely think about is the excellent CODEC system, which allows you to communicate with the support team at base.
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance’s CODEC feels as though its dated, largely due to one massive flaw: the lip-syncing is horrendous.
When you talk to Boris, his facial animations do not match his speech (his mouth even moves when he is not speaking, which is frankly freaky).
This kind of mistake shouldn’t be anywhere near a AAA title. It seems sloppy. There’s no reason why Konami shouldn’t at least get lip-syncing right.
If Konami aren’t taking the effort to get an element of the game like this right, I hate to think where else the title is lacking.
You want the CODEC system in Metal Gear Rising Revengeance to be perfect because its such a huge part of Metal Gear history, but MGR just doesn’t seem to be hitting the nail on the head.

In terms of video game designs, controls are everything. If the controls don’t feel right, the game doesn’t play right. Sadly, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance simply does not feel right at all.
Players use the left analogue stick to control the camera and the right stick to control the direction that you slash your blade in.
This control scheme feels unnatural. It doesn’t really fit well into the hack and slash genre and because it’s unintuitive it becomes irritating and not enjoyable.

Konami have gambled a lot on Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. After all, the Metal Gear franchise is one of their biggest sellers. More than that, though, Metal Gear is the face of Konami, and being the face of the company, they need it to be a success if they’re to please fans and shareholders and keep the Konami stock trading prices high.
Sadly, the Metal Gear Rising Revengeance demo is far from stellar. It’s scrappy, lacking finesse and polish, and from a video game design point of view, it’s simply lacking.
Obviously, the final version of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance will be much better than the demo. But for now, there appear to be ten key faults that will make Metal Geer Rising Revengeance a disappointment for fans and send the Konami stock trading price plummeting.
Click next to begin the top ten reasons why Metal Gear Rising Revengeance will be a disappointment.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance's story and plot is looking amateurish and poorly developed. Metal Gear Solid games have never really been considered masterful pieces of storytelling, but Metal Gear Rising so far looks a whole lot worse than other Metal Gear games, looking less like a AAA title and more like a story from a self published ebook (most of which are far from brilliant).
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance occurs after MGS4. Raiden’s fighting fit (despite being a cyborg-type thingy-majig). But it’s not the ninja cyborg that’s letting the story down. Instead, it’s the fact that you’re instructed to cut off enemies hands to extract biometric information and also to steal their fluids. Oh, and its all voiced by a stereotypical Russian character named (cough) BORIS.
How about a little less of the cheesy clichés, please, Konami?!
