New Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Footage Just-in

Check out the brand new gameplay footage from Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. Raiden’s seriously damaging the body work on that mech (that sword’s gotta scratch).

I have to say, this footage of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance looks a LOT better than previous footage. I trashed the game a few months ago, but it looks like Konami have made it a heck of a lot better! This is the first time I’m actually excited about the game.

Why You’ll Hate Metal Gear Rising Revengeance unless You’re 5

The new trailer for Metal Gear Rising Revengeance hit Tokyo Games Show 2012 today and one thing about the game is immediately clear: it’s for kids only. If you’re an older gamer, you’re simply not going to like Metal Gear Rising Revengeance at all.

1x1.trans Why You’ll Hate Metal Gear Rising Revengeance unless You’re 5gameplay metal gear solid game trailer Everything we’ve seen about the game so far is completely unimaginative, uninspired and, worst of all, clichéd.

The entire design ethos of the game is seemingly to take cool stuff and turn it into a cyborg. There’s Raiden, the ninja-cyborg. Some red face wolf-thing (don’t know what it’s called, really couldn’t give a damn). Oh, the wolf is a cyborg by the way. There are walking metal tripod-head-things that look like they came out of a badly designed NES game. . . really, cyborgs were new (ish) back in the late 80s / early nineties. These days, they’re about as original as wearing black.
One of the things that has set the entire Metal Gear Solid franchise apart has been its maturity. It’s had deep, meaningful stories with realistic characters, and that realism put it ahead of the pack. Take Solid Snake. What makes him such an amazing character is his realism. He’s a gritty, down-to-earth, flawed hero who in the last game was dying of some disease-thing. That’s realism. And then we get Raiden. He’s a pretty-boy-turned-freak-mutant-ninja. That’s about as realistic as a twelved assed duck.

Finally, the gameplay. Well, from what we have seen of the Metal Gear Rising Revengeance demo, the gameplay is just a case of run up, hack and slash, rinse and repeat. There are no real signs of any need for stealth. There’s no strategy as there has been in Metal Gear Solid games. But don’t take my word for it, you can see for yourself in the Metal Gear Rising Revengeance demo.

Of course, this is still pre-release. This negative view of the game might simply be due to a weak marketing campaign. Honestly, I hope to goodness it is. If the finished product of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is as bad as the marketing campaign has made it look, there’s going to be millions of disappointed gamers.

Of course, if you’re a kid, then a bunch of cyborgs jumping everywhere with swords like its circa 1990 is probably pretty damn cool. Oh, to be a kid again. . .    1       2

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is a Total Flop

As soon as Raiden was made the lead character of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance and it was announced that the primary form of combat would involve Raiden’s sword rather than classic MGS weaponry, questions were asked. Solid Snake has long been one of gaming’s number one heroes. without him would the franchise work? And what about the stealth combat? Would it hold together with a sword instead of with the traditional guns and gadgets?

Questions were asked, but fans remained hopeful.

A week ago Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes’ trailer was released. It was an unusual move by Konami. Normally, trailers for new games are released sequentially: you don’t get to see game B before game A has been released. This is an important business strategy because you don’t want game B robbing any of game A’s media coverage or public attention before its raked in the dough.

A weird move, that is, unless game A happens to be rubbish. In this instance, the less attention the flop garners the less damage done to the developer and publisher’s image.

Naturally, when Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes was announced, Revengeance’s health looked to be in certain decline.

And so it is we come to the news that Japan will not see a 360 release of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.

As time goes on, the news grows darker for Raiden. It seems this is a game that was simply destined to flop. It’s not even due out until February. We shudder to think what state it might be in come launch.

Ocarina of Time’s Epona

Overview:  The greatest game of all time… arguably. Ocarina of Time had a sense a scope to its journey that at the time was groundbreaking, and of all the moments in the game, it was when you got Epona that you felt the greatest sense of escape into the fantasy land of Hyrule.

Reward Type: Escape.  Being able to ride Epona really brought home the feeling of adventure and escape in this great story and game.

Why It’s So Good: Everything about The Ocarina of Time was magical, and it was the moment when you got Epona that you felt most connected to the fantasy.

Metal Gear Solid’s Psycho Mantis Fight

Overview:  One of the most original boss fights ever.   At first, the fight against Psycho Mantis seems impossible because he can interpret the moves you make on your controller, meaning you cannot beat him. The only solution is to change the port your controller in plugged into. Genius.

Reward Type: Escape and Discovery.  The discovery side of this is obvious: The fight forces you to think very much outside the box.  By breaking the forth wall it also sparks your imagination and curiosity, making you wonder what other tricks MGS may have in store.

Why It’s So Good:  Because it breaks the forth wall (it enters a point of reality beyond the typical confines of the gaming stage by actually making you perform a task outside of the game, with the controller)

Top 9.5 Games That Make You Feel Powerful

9 : Metal Gear Solid 4

Why It’s On The List : Because sometimes it’s not all about what the game actually gives you. Sometimes it’s about the way you feel about the character and the relationship you’ve developed to them over time. Solid Snake might not be the most hardcore character, but he damn sure is one of the best. The first time you played MGS4 you felt every moment was mgical, you felt as though this was it! This was the game you had waited for. This was the end of Solid Snake, the end of a legend. MGS4 made your every move seem godlike.  A truly empowering experience.
