In a recent self improvement article on Forbes, Jeff Bezos revealed one of the most important traits for success — knowing how to change your mind. It’s a great article that I recommend reading in full. Here is an excerpt from the article
Jeff Bezos on How To Change Your Mind
“Bezos said people who were right a lot of the time were people who often changed their minds.” One one level, this seems like a facile answer. How better to always be right than to change your mind as you go along? But Fried makes it clear that Bezos meant this in a much more profound sense.”

In this great video from Veronika Krestow, she talks about the importance of mindful eating.
You may remember that I wrote about the importance of mindful eating in my article “How To Be A Good Friend While Helping Someone Lose Weight.”
It’s incredibly important to eat mindfully, for a variety of reasons, many of which Veronika Krestow discusses in this video. You may not agree with all of the information and opinions in it (I’m not 100% convinced on all of it myself), but there are three absolute definite truths about mindful eating that you hardly need a psychology degree or personal dietitian to see the truth of:
When you enjoy a moment of mindfulness, you increase your energy levels, bringing yourself back into the moment.
It’s important to give thank and show gratitude for what you do have. This instantly promotes happiness.
It’s equally important to be aware of what you are putting into your body. Too many people just shovel food back. Just by being Read more [...]
Oftentimes, we hold ourselves back from success because of negative thought patterns and attitudes. By using the following keys to self awareness, we can quickly begin to recognise our thought patterns and thus empower ourselves to change them.
Keep an eye out for these THREE SELF AWARENESS KEYS
Self Awareness Key 1: Judging:
Probably every single one of us is guilty of judging other people. We think of people as thin or fat as rich or poor as nice or nasty and so on. Sadly, once we make these judgements, it can be very hard to change them. Once we deem someone to be unfriendly it can be very hard to see them as anything but that. Even if this unfriendly individual suddenly starts acting incredibly nicely towards us, our early negative judgment will keep us from seeing the good in them.
It isn’t hard to see how judgements of this type can negatively impact our lives. It is much better to cultivate an attitude of acceptance and to keep ourselves from Read more [...]

One of the best techniques that I've come across when it come to getting rid of any sort of nerves or fears is called "Future History." It was a term put together by Mohamma Ali. Before major fights he would visualise in which round, with which punch, he would knock someone out. He was getting it right every time.
what I always do before any presentation is first thing in the morning I go out and create my future history. Olympic athletes do it. I visualise, imagining everything will go well. Byt eh time I go into the room I can relax knowing everything Read more [...]

The Neuroscience of Motivation– How Does Motivation Work?
The fastest man on the planet electrified the Olympic Stadium and the world with his amazing performance in the 100m. The world had doubted Usain Bolt’s ability to win the 100m sprint, but Bolt did not doubt himself. Bolt believed. He believed in his ability to win and he also believed in his religion. In this performance, Usain Bolt perfectly illustrated the value of believing in yourself.
Usain Bolt is the perfect illustration of the value of believing in yourself.
Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat. This is an article about belief, not about religion. It’s an article about how important belief is in self improvement. Belief can take many forms. We can believe in ourselves, we can believe in god, we can believe in nature or in life itself, we can believe in science, we can believe in anything. What we believe in is irrelevant. All that matters is that we believe in something, for belief itself is where true power lies. The value of believing in yourself, or in some power that gives you confidence and strength, is unquestionable.
If you swallow a sugar pill believing it’s a medicinal tablet that will cure your ills: it will (this is a scientific fact, for more on this look up placebo effect). If you believe that god will save you at your lowest moments, god will. If you believe, as Usain Bolt did, that you will succeed in the biggest challenge in your life, you will. Belief, regardless of where it is placed, is an incredibly powerful force. If you enlist the value of believing in yourself it will take you far. Read more [...]
There's a real irony to happiness: The more you chase it, the further away it runs. to take control of our lives and to learn how to be happy, we actually need to stop trying; we need to stop thinking so much, stop trying so hard. You see, happiness is like my cat, Tibby: if you go to pick her up, she'll run away at light speed. But if you just sit there, content, she'll leap up into your lap and nuzzle-up to you for hours. And so is happiness: it comes when you let it, not when you try to force it. Read more [...]

Games can make you a better you, when Gaming meets Self Improvement.
Isn’t it fantastic? Finally the world is beginning to recognise the positives of gaming. Finally gaming is getting the recognition it deserves as a resource for positive change. There are brain training games; there are games helping children to learn; there are meditative, relaxing games; there’s even Deepak Chopra’s own biofeedback game Journey, which helps players learn to control their energies. A lot of this might seem somewhat mumbo jumbo—and no, I’m not referring to the Banjo Kazooie character there— so let’s cut out the mysticism of it all. Here’s an awesome list of five ways in which you can immediately begin to use gaming for positive real life changes.
Five Ways to Use Games for Self Improvement:
5: Use Games to Boost Energy: One of the most apparent effects gaming has on players is that it makes them feel more energised, more excited, more alive. You get bored in day to day life so you Read more [...]
If ever one book answered the question of how to become successful in life, it is Stephen R Covey’s The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People. Covey's book has helped to improve the lives of millions around the world through its seven habits and through the simple clarity with which it presents effective advice on how to become successful in life.
If there is one problem with the book, however, it is that, much like other self improvement books, whilst it features brilliant advice it doesn’t neccessarily inspire individuals to actually implement that advice. The Seven Habits of Highly Successful people makes us aware of what we should do to create success in our lives, but it fails to capture the deeper, rawer essence of ourselves, the fiery pit in the belly where ideas turn to action. That is the realm of art.
If you want to know how to become successful in life, you need two things: 1) the right knowledge 2) the right inspiration and passion. The seven habits gave us the Read more [...]

3: For Positive Psychology and Personality Development: Just yesterday, we reported that scientists had proven how reading books makes people develop their personality to be more like their favourite character. The same is true for movies, with movies making viewers become more like the characters they most associate with. And the same is true for any game which you feel very closely related to the lead character.
That doesn’t mean that playing Sonic will make you a hedgehog. But in a story driven game, like one of the Final Fantasy games, for instance, you will naturally being to develop certain traits of your favourite character just by playing the game for a long time. In other words, if you love Aeris, and you play and read and watch Final Fantasy stories, then you will likely develop your spirituality (which is a good thing, given that the health benefits of spirituality are immense).
So, choose a game with a character you feel very close Read more [...]
