There are thousands of excellent Hobbit fan artworks simply floating lazily around the internet’s as though unaware of their own brilliance. You’d need a mile of golden frames to do justice to the net’s collection of Hobbit fan art. And so, naturally, wittling those wonderful works down to this top ten list has been no mean feat.

10: The Hobbit by ZiggyFin

Definitely one of the best cartoon-style Hobbit images I have seen. The expressions on the characters make them larger than life and the comedic flair sets the image apart from all other entries in this list.

9: Gollum by GiddyGraphite

This fan art of Gollum was submitted to a Hobbit fan art contest by GiddyGraphite. On his blog, GiddyGraphite says, “I would have liked to get a little stranger with him still feels to movie Gollum for my liking.  One of my favorite characters and so well designed my subconscious had a hard time breaking from the original.”

8: The Hobbit Book Cover by Toerning

There is such an energy about Smaug in this book cover by Toerning that you can almost imagine him taking a bite out of you. The contrast of his bright orange, giant body against the tiny, dull-lit body of Bilbo makes for a strikingly dynamic image.

7: Bilbo Baggins by Serena Kenobi

Beautiful use of colour and light make this portrait of Bilbo Baggins a more than worthy entrant to this list. It’s one of the warmest and most atmospheric Hobbit fan artworks out there.

6 Dwarves by Igorkieryluk via tumblr

Apparently this isnt’ actually a hobbit fan art. It’s actually a picture of dwarves that are unrelated to Tolkien (if any dwarf can truly be thought to be such). I’m sure you’ll agree, however, that it certainly is reminiscent of The Hobbit, and its subject and beauty make it more than worthy of a spot in this list.
