Rey Mysterio 619

There’s no quarrelling about what you’re getting with Rey Mysterio. You’re getting the most acrobatic man to have ever stepped foot inside a WWE ring. You’re also getting an artist who wouldn’t look out of place at Cirque de Soliel.

In many ways, this performer character of Rey Mysterio makes the finishing move more important to him than it is to others. When you watch a performer (be it at a circus, a theatre or anywhere else) you expect them to save the best for last, to have the piesta resistance at the shows conclusion. So it is with Rey Mysterio. You’ve been watching him bounce around the ring like an acrobat for ten minutes, and now that it’s nearly over you’re waiting for that big wow. That’s what the 619 is. It’s the gymnasts final tumble, the theatre actor’s grand soliloquy, and they don’t come much finer than Rey Mysterio’s 619.

 

The Rock: People’s Elbow

Trying to decide which of The Rock’s finishing moves to include in this list was not easy. The Rock Bottom is an excellent move (particularly when he talks smack into his rivals ear before delivering it).  It’s a powerful and, yes, electrifying move, but it’s not overly unique.

More than not being unique, the Rock Bottom doesn’t quite capture The Rock’s personality as perfectly as the People’s Eyebrow. The reason is simple: The Rock is a comedian. He might be a wrestler, an actor and a great speaker, but more than all that he simply makes people smile and laugh. The Rock’s perfect finishing move needs to do the same. It needs The Rock’s cockiness and his comedy, and for that, The People’s Elbow is numero uno. The way he lazily kicks his opponent’s arm before saluting the crowd is so quintessentially The Rock that it near puts the Rock Bottom to shame. Without doubt, the People’s Elbow is one of the most electrifying moves in sports entertainment. . . but it isn’t number one.
